I've been quite anxious about Isabelle's review with the paed, and thankfully, it looks all positive. Isabelle's lungs are clear and her nose shows less sensitivity than before. This means that Isabelle is responding to the treatment recommended, and as the paed says, has a very good chance of not turning asthmatic.
Actually I knew all along googling all the medication that Isabelle has been taking, that she has been treated like an asthma patient. However, as asthma is not conclusive in a child, most doctors would avoid diagnosing as such until the child turns about 6 -7 years old. Generally, young children can go through a phase of asthma like symptoms such as wheezing and constant coughing for a few years until the respiratory tract becomes less hyperactive and immune system strengthens. However, there is a good chance of out growing it if proper care is taken and it's not in the genes. I'm feeling extremely thankful and grateful that all our efforts are paying off. It has been a tough journey caring for Isabelle the last few months, not only physically and mentally, but also accepting criticisms from the in-laws for over-reacting, that this is just the cough and cold, and all that is needed is ginseng and cordyceps! It's not that I do not welcome Chinese medicine, but I do believe that Western medicine can help diagnose an illness more conclusively than traditional medicine. Also, to me, there is no real proof of benefits/cure of taking cordyceps and may instead allow the problem to drag even longer.
Anyway, Isabelle still needs to be on medication for another 2 months, which includes nasal corticosteroids to treat allergic rhinitis and flixotide puff. There has been some concern that nasal corticosteroids may cause side effects in children, such as growth delay and behavioral disturbances however I have been assured that her dosage is low (half the normal recommended) and extremely safe. And so I'm praying; praying everyday that we get past this phase and that she can be cured completely. We are hopeful, and the paed is quite confident, it will work. I'm leaving everything n God's hands, in Him we trust and surrender! I know he will heal Isabelle completely so that she can lead a very normal and healthy life.
