The Tyre Goes Flat

The unfortunate happened this morning. I should have sensed that something was wrong as I drove the car out from the car park. There was some sound, the car wasn't moving as smoothly as usual... kinda less vroom vroom feel than usual, but i thought I may have been too sensitive... after all I only drive the car on weekends. There seemed to be a hissing sound, but then I thought it was from the interference of the radio channel. I switched channels, and the sound wasn't so bothering after all.

I reached AMK Hub, and as I was reversing into the parking lot...the NTUC trolley attendants were waving furiously to me, pointing to my tyre. I was still rather blur...maaybe they were telling me that some flyer was stuck there. To my shock I saw a flat tyre when I got out. Gosh... how did I manage to drive that distance? How did I manage to turn down the spiral path to the car park? Many questions crossed my mind...and then, now what? What should I do next?

I called D to ask what I should do. He suggested call AAM or ask some kind soul to help me. But no gentlemen to be seen at the car park. I decided to ask the NTUC trolley attendants. The young Malay lad was smiling and agreed to help, but he admitted he wasn't too sure, he had only changed a car tyre once in his life but he was willing to try. He tried... but wasn't too sure, and lucky his colleague passed by and gave a helping hand. Together both of them changed the tyre for me.

Thank God for these 2 kind souls who went above & beyond their normal responsibilities to assist me. Many others walked by in the car park, none stopped to lend a helping hand. Maybe they thought I had help, but honestly none of them really looked bothered.

Today's incident made me see support staff in a different light. We often take for granted the cleaners, the janitors, the trolley attendants. We look at their jobs as lowly, however, we do not realise that they are just normal people like everyone else, who wished they had better jobs but circumstances did not permit, they have pride and dignity and deserve respect for whatever basic jobs they do. Today's incident is a reminder to be humble and respect all beings, no matter who they are, what they do.
