Day Off (& Out) for Mum & Tod

Childcares in Singapore are allowed to close for 6 days in a year, be it for teachers training or center maintenance. Today was one of such days and so I took the day off to look after Isabelle.

I had planned to bring her down to the pool this morning. But it rained early in the morning and the water was cold. Plus Isabelle was having a mild running nose. So we spent the morning mainly indoors except for a short walk around the estate to get some fresh air. It was quite a task home schooling the little one, she wanted more & more activites, at one point, I had to change 3 different activities in half an hour. I even found myself staring at the clock waiting for lunch time to come.

Isabelle refused lunch today. She picked at the potatoes and the peas in the shephard's pie, then started making a fuss when she could not find more potatoes or peas. Yup, thats my fussy eater, it's been like this for weeks! When I gave her a stern face, she insisted that she wanted to sleep, and ran off to the room and climbed into bed. She did fall asleep within minutes, which made me wonder if the running nose medicine had caused her to feel drowsy.

Isabelle woke on her own after a 1 1/2 hours nap and had a cup of yoghurt, and we set out for a mum & tod day out to Orchard. It's my first time going out shopping at Orchard with her, and honestly I did wonder if I was too bold doing that, plus I did not bring out the stroller. But I didn't have much choice, we're off to HK this Sat for a family getaway at last and the weather there had unexpectedly turned a little cold & wet, and I needed to get some thermal wear for her.

Isabelle was a little nervous about taking the MRT train at first. I think it had something to do with the dark tunnels, but soon enjoyed the rider. Though I think she was a little confused about the word train, as the MRT does not make the sounds "choo choo". Isabelle made a good shopping companion, she walked a fair bit on her own with no complains. She obediently held on to me and when situation allowed, I let her walk on her own, which she happily did close by, sometimes ahead and sometimes behind me.

We had some fun in the fitting room too. In the first shop, she imitated me taking off my shoes and bag and wanted to follow suit with her clothes. At Uniqlo, we had one of the funniest moments, she pulled down her shorts and shouted out "poo poo", that made me panic a little and I had to rush out of the fitting room, and out of the store for the nearest washroom. However, as expected she did not do her business as it is an unfamiliar environment.

By now, its 4pm, and Isabelle is feeling hungry (remember, she skipped lunch today?). We checked into Ichiban Sushi for their tea time specials, and Isabelle slurped a good 3/4 portion of the cold green tea soba in sesame sauce. She looked so happy & satisfied and was smiling from ear to ear. Eating noodles always makes her happy, it doesn't matter what kind or type, soup or dry, warm or cold, white, green or yellow...as long as its noodles!

We ended the afternoon with some activity at Centerpoint. With $30 purchase in a single receipt, kids can make a hat for free at the atrium. Isabelle did some colouring and sticker pasting, and the organisers did the cutting, and voila...she got a HAT! and yes a balloon too. And so she was a very very happy kid! I can always tell she had a good day, when she gives me a kiss and a hug and a mummy's chant....that's my girl!

We had a great time, and I'm kinda looking forward to the next day off. Somehow it just feels like a treat, different from the usual weekend stuff we do. And I'm glad to know I have a shopping companion now!
